The Lamson Adventures!!!

The Olgas (Kata Tjuta)

The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) are located 517 km South West of Alice Springs. It is part of that glorious Uluru National Park.  Kata Tjuta is made up of 36 domes set in a circle west of Ayers Rock (Uluru).  I got the feeling that most tourist came to see Ayers Rock. I was more impressed by Kata Tjuta.  The 36 domes are said to represent the remains of a numbers of great creators in the Aboriginal Dreamtime legends.  I wish I knew the whole story. Anyone?  There are two hikes located on the west side of the Mt Olga, the largest rock.   You can hike up the gorge which leads up to the Valley of the Winds.

The mountains were actually formed by dust and debris from surroudning mountains. As corrosion hit them, the wind took the rocks and sand and plopped them here. When you are up close, you can see that the rocks are not smooth like most of the sandstone you see here. They are pebbles and rocks. It looks like something cemented them together.   Very cool.

The Olgas show from far away, even with the bad weather, we knew they were huge! Did not clear much, but when it did. Wow!!! As you travel to the Olgas, stop at the viewing spot, unless you have a wide angle, this is the only way to fit it all.
This is from the West side looking up toward the gorge that we ended at. This is located at the opening of the Gorge. Really it was only to show you all the rock laying around. It was formed by these same rocks. We are almost there Angela. Stay with it.
This is as far up the Gorge you can go. Really pretty up there. I wanted to jump the rope and head on up. Happy Anniversary. 11 years!!!!!
